Result
Stoke Gabriel Win by 5 wickets
Report Robbo lead his band of merry men into a second successive victory after a 5 wicket win at home to Feniton. Aussie Mark Jackson took 6 wickets and a makeshift batting order knocked off the 120 to win time to spare. The side was pieced together this week , with no less than 4 players missing from what would be called the “strongest” line up. Opener and Sunday specialist Mark Newman was un-avaliable with the shits – first times he’s got runs on a Saturday this season! With Nick Sandbrook , Adam “Muttiah” Castle and Paul Collings also out , Robbo gave starts to Tom Armstrong , Adam Newman , Alex Hill and Doug Ansley. With captain Shearos winning the toss , he inserted Feniton on another (lets say) interesting surface. Jacko took little time to get going , in the first ball of his second over he knocked Cann’s off stump out of the ground. With Tony Hawk wheeling away at the other end , Jacko struck again in his second over , having Haysom caught at point by Money Shot (I had to pinch myself I’ll admit , but he definatly caught it). Avril began to find his line before Pullin lashed a no ball straight over Tony’s head for 6 (How you call a no ball when he’s on wheel’s is anybody’s guess). Jacko found himself enough time to bowl Robartson out before his spell finished. And when Tony had Pullin caught by the Matrix at mid wicket , things were looking good with Feniton at 51/4. With Jacko out of the attack , Robbo ushered Jamie Day into the attack (After all you can’t talk with a mouth full of caviar) , and the ex-Dawlish and Teignmouth man was proving difficult to score off. Unfortunatly the same couldn’t be said for Tom Armstrong , serving up two rank overs before being swiftly removed from the attack by a ruthless Robbo. Money Shot came into the attack , and was looking to stem the runs. Which , to be fare he would have done , had it not been for some – at best – suspect fielding. First up was Steve “London Bridge” Tolley , who came crashing down on top of (But crucially not behind) the ball. Not to be outdone , captain Shearos took the best part of a week to get down to the ball (He’s still on his way down now). Money Shot was also removed from the attack , with Robbo reverting back to Aussie Jacko , this time bowling from the other end. The return of Jacko bought about the fifth wicket of the innings , but it came from Jamie Day , who had Tucker caught elegantly behind by Bill Alcock. Bright was joined Pitt , who moved the scores on to 93. 93/5 became 93/9 when Jacko and Doris shared two wickets a-piece within four consecutive overs. Unfortunatly for the second week in a row Stoke made difficult work of removing the 10th wicket. Pyle took on what he could , and moved the score onto 119 before Jacko had Witton LBW to take his sixth wicket. With Monkey out , Steve Tolley had a new opening partner in the form of Bill Alcock. They weren’t the opening pairing for very long , with Tolls chopping on for 0 – a far cry away from last seasons exploits with the bat. Rob Baker found his way to the middle (I’m surprised he didn’t get lost) and began setting about chasing the total down. The opening bowling was tight , but with retaining 6 overs from the curtailed previous innings , overs were never going to be an issue providing there was batting left at the end. Alcock was quick to go aerial off anything loose , and despite being dropped , he remained resolute at the crease. The pair added 57 before Bakes became the second person to drag on in the innings , for another well fought score of 26. With the score on 65/2 , Shearos offered Doris the opportunity for a promotion up the order , and unfortunately for Doris , he took it. Five minutes later he was back in the changing room after slapping French to Pyle at a deepish mid on (Day only having scored 3 more runs than he has taken wickets this season 17-14) . Robbo made his way to the middle (Insert some of the usual crap that Sandy comes up with here) and when Bill finally departed for an excellently constructed 32 , it was beginning to look like Stoke were going to make more hard work of a batting chase. Robbo was joined by Tony Hawk in the middle , waiting to unleash his repertoire of tricks on the Feniton attack. But was it really in any doubt. Both were finding boundaries frequent to come by – including a big six from the skipper over square leg. With the scores level , the captain attempted to launch a 6 to propel the score to 125 (the extra batting bonus point) , unfortunately Robbo played all round a full bunger , and was despatched by the umpire. Al Hill made his way to the crease and was around to see Dave Bolland hit the winning run to see Stoke home. Scorecard
