Report

After a deluge of rain at 1.00pm the match got finally underway at 3.30pm with the playing conditions revised to 33 overs a side. Stoke were asked to bat first and the innings began at a good pace. Dave Higgins and Jeff Baker put on 26 for the first wicket off 6 overs. W Harrison dismissed Baker and Paul Collings joined Higgins to add 38 for the 2nd wicket. Higgins fell for a hard hitting 41 to the bowling of L Townsend. Tim Nand-Lal (23) and Collings shared in a 3rd wicket partnership of 37 which got Stoke up to 101 for 2 with 13 overs to go.

Collings hung around as the Stoke middle order looked to score quick runs. Matt Corstorphin hit a 6 and a 4 before he became the 3rd victim for Townsend (3-56). Tom Armstrong hit a rapid 28 which included 4 4s and a 6. Collings eventually went for 36 as Stoke managed to get their total up to 183-9 from their 33 overs. J Cowan bowled well for Ottery at the death taking 3 for 23.

Sean Dwyer (2-13) picked up 2 early wickets and Ottery were soon in trouble. Stephen Nand-lal took the third wicket and Ottery were floundering on 36 for 3. C Axsel (20) and J Faulkner tried to fight back but some good bowling from Tom Armstrong (2-12) and Matt Corstorphin (3-29) saw Ottery slip to 78 for 8. A Clements counter attacked for Ottery with a bright and breezy 38 that included 2 6s. Jeff Baker took 2 important wickets including the last Ottery wicket of Clements in the penultimate over. Stoke running out victors by 63 runs.

In an improved fielding performance Stoke held all their catches bar 1. A good 19 points which pushes them up the league.
