Stoke batted first after winning the toss. Jeff Baker and Dave Higgins fell early on a difficult batting track. Mark Newman (24) and Paul Collings added 23 for the second wicket and Adam Newman (19no) helped Mark add a further 27 for the 4^th wicket. Going into the last 3 overs Stoke had just 87. It was at this point that Jannie Pieterse came into bat with endless applause from the aussie contingent. Jannie lulled the opposition into a false sense of security with a few air shots. He then proceeded to lose 2 balls out of the ground with 2 huge sixes and this was followed by a fiercely struck 4. This late flurry of runs pushed Stoke up to 117 for 6 from their 20 overs - a good effort on a difficult wicket.

Kingskerswell started slowly and Stephen Nand-Lal soon had David Lear out for a duck. Mike Perkin followed by taking the wicket of his fellow opener Hutherington. Richard Hancock and M Stevens then took the attack to Stoke. Stevens smashed a quickfire 32 before falling to a good catch from Clive Burnell on the boundary. N Wheedon scored 15 as Kingskerswell upped the run rate. Doug Ansley bowled tidily but finding a 5^th bowler was crucial. Dave Higgins stepped up to the mark and he proceeded to take 2 wickets, conceding just 21 runs from his 3 overs.

Going into the final 3 overs Kingskerswell need 22 to win with wickets in hand. Nand-Lal bowled 2 tidy overs as did Higgins in the 19^th over. Stoke eventually finishing winners by 11 runs.
