Report The Under 17’s returned to the Memorial Field three weeks after the Paignton Chainsaw Massacre , to put in a decent , but ultimately unsucessful performance against Kingsbridge. Stoke maintained their consistent selection policy , with Alex Harvey returning , finally being located after 2 weeks in the Dartmoor outback. Andy Coles missed yet another game , this time due to some Football presentation (“This Is the Cricket Season”). Captain Adam Deakin won the toss once again , and opted to bowl. Steve Nand-Lal and Giselle Ansley opened up with tidy but unfruitful spells. With Kingsbridge on 20 after the latter was taken out of the attack. Rhys Lowther came into the attack , with a radar that initially seemed to be aimed somewhere in the direction of Dartford , he strugged to keep the extra’s down. Once the Tom Tom was re-directed , he had Dorey snagged down the leg-side for 21 , coolly taken by Alex ‘Gilchrist’ Bertram. Graham Litt removed the other opener Davies for 9 , after he tamely chipped the jet black haired trundler to Giselle Ansley at short mid wicket. Lowther proved the worth of Sat-Nav (A virtue seemingly lost on Rob Baker travel) , knocking Westlake’s middle peg out of the ground , and Kingsbridge fell from 36/0 to 39/3. And when Litt had McCoy caught superbly by Ben Stone , Stoke looked like they had turned the game back in their favour. Unfortunately , Telford had other ideas , taking advantage of some scatter gun bowling from the skipper and rapid quick Bob Bamber (I’m blaming the ball – that’s my excuse) , quickly propelling Kingsbridge towards the hundred mark before Adam Deakin (with a rare non-extra delievery) had Telford caught on the boundary by Alex Harvey inside the rope for 30 (7 fours). Kingsbridge on 97/6 with 6 overs remaining. Bamber then had (insert name here) stumped by Alex Bertram , returning to his Spanish holiday aparment behind the stumps. Deakin returned with 3 wickets in a long – long – over , and Bamber picked up his second , with Kingsbridge ending on 120 all out. After Tim Nand-Lal’s Winston Churchill-esque enspiring words , Ben Stone was struck down by a rapid form of the H5N1 strain of avain flu , and a more than reluctant Adam Deakin eventually took the opening duties (Even at one point looking toward number 9 tail gunner Bob Bamber – as yet to trouble any scorer this season – before rightly seeing sense). Deakin proved no wonder why he was less than happy to bat , after a few not exactly re-assuring flashes at thin air , Rosewarn rightly put the strickened captain out of his misery and had him sent back to the hut. With Stone still receiving treatment from the doctor , Giselle Ansley joined keeper Alex Bertram , and together they set upon chasing down the total – not before Bertram sold Ansley down the river with a (dodgy) 'Yes' call (Now I’m not one to talk about running , but its normally not a good idea to call yes when the ball had just been picked up by the bowler). Thankfully , the ball missed , and the pair put on 62 for the second wicket , before Bertram was run out himself out (Karma) for 26. Ben Stone made a miraculous recovery , and came to the wicket with 54 needed from 6 overs. Unfortunately the target proved too big , Ansley being run out for (32) chasing runs to keep up with the rate , and Stone following for (16) , with Stoke ending 106/6.
