Report
The Under 17’s were left reeling tonight after a crushing defeat at the hands of Paignton. Lead by Mark Gilmour and Rob Shergold , Paignton slashed their way through Stoke’s batting line up , with the home side ending all out for just 34 , before the visiting side picked off the total without loosing a wicket. Stoke captain Adam Deakin won the toss , and elected to bat. However , the positives ended there. 1st XI leg spinner Mark Gilmour opened the Paignton attack , utilising the Memorial Field slope. And it took just three balls for him to claim his first wicket , when Alex Bertram was tempted into coming down the wicket , and was stumped smartly by keeper Hearne. Gilmour claimed two more scalps in his next over , cleaning up Ben Stone , and then having Deakin poke a ball straight up to mid off , leaving Stoke at 3/3 at the end of the third over. Rob Shergold then entered the party bowling Fergus Barratt , Giselle Ansley and Chris Murphy , leaving the home side reeling at 7/6. It was left to the tail to try and salvage something – anything – from the match. With Gilmour and Shergold out of the attack , Elliot Anderton and Graham Litt began to restructure the mess. Slowly but surely the manoeuvred through the following 7 overs, combining for a – contextually vital – partnership , worth 18 , before Litt was bowled by Harry Davis. Bob Bamber followed one ball later after being on the receiving end of a jaffer , and Paignton made light working of finishing off the innings , with Anderton finishing on 7 , before being on the wrong end of a contestable umpiring decision – Stoke 34 all out Paignton took just 5 overs to pick off the meagre target , leaving the 17’s to lament on a terribly poor night. If this report doesn’t do it for you , the scorecard will. Scorecard
