Match - Under 15's
Shaldon vs Stoke Gabriel - 11/05/08 - Home
Result Stoke Gabriel (25 pts) beat Bovey Tracey (8 pts) by 5 runs Report In a good weekend for Stoke Gabriel the U15s came out on top after a very tense game against Shaldon – the team that pipped them to the U15s title last year. Stoke batted first and Ben Stone and Andy Ball smashed the ball to all parts of the Shaldon ground. The pair put on 34 in just 4 overs ! Andy played one too many aggressive shorts and he perished for 11. Fergus and Ben added a further 22 for the second wicket. Ben batted positively as he scored an invaluable 38. He was ably supported by Matt Nand-Lal who scored a hard hitting 16. Giselle chipped in with 9 whilst Esme and Tom Marke added valuable runs towards the end of the Stoke innings to get us up to 111 for 7 from our 20 overs. This included Esme hitting the last ball for 4 (a crucial boundary given what followed). M Long bowled particularly well for Shaldon taking 4 wickets for 27 runs. Shaldon started slowly in response with Matt Deakin and Giselle ensuring they scored just 24 off the first 7 overs. The only early wicket fell from a sharp run out. Tom Ballman held the Shaldon innings together as he made a good 50 before being he had to retire. Jack Tolley bowled tidily conceding just 18 runs from his 4 overs. Giselle and Andy Ball picked up numbers 3 and 4 of the Shaldon innings but gradually Shaldon were getting the run rate down to a reasonable rate. At the half way Shaldon needed 76 to win but this was down to just 18 off the last 3 overs. Tom Marke bowled a crucial over that went for just 5 runs and this was followed up by an exceptional over by Fergus who took 4 wickets and conceded just 3 runs. The final over was left to Matt Deakin with Shaldon needing 11 to win. The first 4 balls went for just 3 runs and the 5th ball saw Matt bowl their number 10 batsman. The last ball went for 2 and Stoke edged home with a 5 run victory. This was a good victory, on a lovely day, at a great venue with a nice friendly team to play. Scorecard
